Do the BUFFs have to load 100% fuel? That gives them over 320 min of flight time on Boost 1. Twice the length of the frame?

Pre-planning and aircrew briefs
How much intel can be disseminated ahead of the mission. I only ask as I have spoken with the CO concerning the time to brief ppl is limited and sometimes confusing "on the fly". Maps, tgt specs, routes in and out plus fighter pick-up points would be useful and more realistic, apart from being slightly more immersive.

The biggest thing that would help this situation would be for ALL fighter and bomber pilots to check in here and see what is being planned no later than Sat nite or Sunday morning... they can even contribute to our efforts... Or the *Squad leaders* to disseminate the info on their own board or email lists. There are way too many that depend on last minute briefs before takeoff.
I believe if you read this thread you will see that most of the basic information needed to make individual squad decisions on is already posted. What is undetermined is the number of bomber pilots that will show, which affects the planning enormously.
Of course you could volunteer to CO a frame as we only have a few of us that are taking our limited time for the planning to make this as fun and realistic as possible.

you have 27 pens total@ 3000 pts each. 500 lb bombs do 765 pts damage each. 1000 lb bombs do 1100 pts damage each ( if you have a direct hit)
12 500 lb bombs = 6000 pts per bomb load.
8 1000 lb bombs = 8800 pts per bomb load
b-17 carries 6 1 k bombs, b-24 carries 8.
both carry 12 500 lb bombs
27 pens =81000 pts to destroy = 73.63 1000 lb bombs.
Since damage has to EXCEED the damage point value, round upwards to say 80 bombs.

75% of targets at the specific site include all targets except ack.

I'm assuming in WW2, if a target was, say 80% destroyed, and all the ack batteries remained..it would be nonfunctional. Our concern is the enemy's ability to build and repair subs. Ack plays no part in that.

I do apologize for switching orders around. I would encourage everyone to take a stab at CO'ing a frame and also planning an entire series. I'm trying to balance history, fun and fairness. Not always an easy task.

I tip my hat to all of you for help, suggestions and understanding....

We're going to need more BUFFs if the MOB Frame 2 showed us anything.

There were just 4 locations to hit with tightly grouped objects. Bombs were wasted on objects not in the target areas. Only one area received over 75% damage on the first mission (Sleepy's Tall Boy bombs leveled 100% the electrical facilities at F59). The other locations had only 40-50% objects destroyed on the first pass requiring a second BUFF mission to finish them off.

This mission has 6 locations, with harder object tuffness, objects spread out in two locations, and without the chance for a second mission. Not seeing how all 6 areas can be hit with positive results.

We need to pick the targets we hit to get 75% destruction the first time with the available BUFF assets.

Do the BUFFs need to carry 100% fuel? 50% fuel is more than enough to complete the mission.

It might be better to not hit the two UBoat yards to the East and make sure we put enough tonnage on the other 4. (if you think we don't have enough bombs) better to shut down 3 or 4 of them than hit them all, only to do 50% damage on them all.

just trying to get this straight.
We are to 75% destroy all objects at a U-boat base, not just the pens?
recalculating...….
side note.....100 fuel on buffs....probably a good idea as a fuel hit in one tank would doom you. The only advantage to less fuel would be climbing, but with an airstart its not a real issue...and we would have almost an hour to climb before breaking radar. ( it does cut down on those fellas coming over from main who say...opps I only brought 20 %)
