FRAME CO: NOOKYB CO 4TH F.G.
S3-FRAME 2 AAR
20 Jan 2019

PILOTS: Nookyb Jedijc Bwild Victim Icyplt Coolon Omega Ruidoc Robert Riffer Kaceyj

Initial Analysis:

Japanese forces to include combined Naval, Air and Ground have attacked in great numbers the Melanesia Islands and in particular Pupia New Guinea in order to provide a defense barrier against Australia. During Frame 1 Allied Forces barely held on to existing territories losing some coastal cities and military positions. Pressing their attack in Frame 2 IJN forces are trying to solidify their positions and move inland to control the islands major towns and cities. Stiff resistant is expected in the forth-coming conflict. Three sectors will be attacked during the frame by the 4th F.G. on the central portion of New Guinea while other Allied forces attack the Northern, Southern sectors and Troop Transport lanes accessing landing areas in New Guinea .

Sortie 1:
T+0 1950
The 4th Fighter Group launched from F89 with 11 pilots in P-39s, P-40s and TBD-1s. One flight of 4 pilots in P-39s headed N to interdict possible IJN ground force incursions. The remaining pilots, 4 in P-40s for high cover and 4 in P-39s launched for a bombing strike against F79 and F80. The first group was diverted to F79-80 intercepting the larger attack formation over F71. With little opposition the target was bombed and both DAR arrays were downed with the loss of one pilot. The 4th RTB back to F89 successfully re-armed and prepared to launch again.
Launched: 12 pilots Kills 3 KIAs 1 Ground Forces 4

Sortie 2:
T+95 2045
The 4th F.G. launched in similar AC to bomb and strafe F89-80 for the second time. Several additional targets were destroyed, almost completely wiping out F89. With a few loses from ground fire and one bomber from cons most of the group RTBed for another attempt to close either of the two targets. One con was destroyed along with several gun emplacements to loss of another pilot. It was apparent defensive forces were being activated to protect F89 and other targets in their area.
Launch: 12 pilots Kills 3 KIAs 1 Ground Forces 4

Sortie 3:
T+190 2140
Remaining pilots launch to strike previous targets and close F79 or F80. A number of pilots were lost in the last sortie from ground fire and IJN zeros. The attack was effective although and F79 was closed. Due to heavier defensive action on the part of the Japanese little time was spent over targets F81 and F82. Also the P-39 fuel usage prevented any kind of sustained operations over this area. A couple of pilots RTB a little early and arrived at F89 and got ready to launch for needed protection of returning Allied aircraft.
Launched: 9 Pilots KILLs 2 KIAs 2 Ground Forces 3

Sortie 4:
T+2.85 2235
Launching two aircraft to provided caps over returning 4th pilots and the area from F89 to F71. After most of the 4th aircraft recovered one of the pilots flying cap called CONs in the area over a lot of Combat Chatter and before he could return to F89 for ground support was shot down and the remaining pilot flying cap burned up his engine and while trying to land was shot down also.
Launched: 2 Pilots KILLs 0 KIAs 2

Synopsis:
While the operations were successful in capturing F79 to many AC were lost to ground fire and Japanese fighters. The worst case situation was Combat Comm and the loss of two friendlies from inattention in the final few minutes of the frame. We must keep combat ready at all times and be cognizant of what is going on around the 4th F.G. during military action.
Launched: 34 pilots Kills 8 KIAs 6 Ground Forces 11
