High Command had moved the 4th FG to M17 on TDY.We were based there to protect the shoreline near Antwerp and our shipping in the area. Our other task was bomber escort, along with the 352nd FG. Took off at T+0 for a patrol of the shipping up north with 18 pilots in attendance. Light was a late entry and kelly discoed, so he launched with light to join us, but Command decided we should RTB so we could meet the buffs on time. As we were halfway back, we heard of LW jets attacking F23, but we were too far away to help and recovered at M12 to reconfigure our birds for the long trip into Germany. As we rolled for escort, we heard the buffs were close to WP2 and ready to turn east. After the group formed we headed for the RP post haste abd caught up as they past south of Liege.
All was quiet until we reached near the IP to turn for target.d chatter on the radio that the 352nd scout unit was engaged far out front of the group and the fun started. All the way to tgt we and the 352nd kept the LW off the bomber stream. Our RAF buddy +bolok scored one, but was damaged and had to return to France with bombr as wing. After the turn for home, the buffs decided to hit F71 and almost closed it with 190s and 109s making runs through the box. During the egress, robert and jedi-jc scored 2 kills each. All in all, the 4th had a decent run with 4kills and 2 losses plus 10 assists. BTW WLDBIL wqs flying as a NOMAD, not a 4thman(for scoring purposes). THanks sepua for a great plan and executiion.
