The threat to the crucial US-Australian shipping route posed by the construction of a Japanese airfield on Guadalcanal forced the US to send a division of Marines to capture and hold this suddenly important island in the Solomons. Japan was quick to react sending more troops, air units and naval forces into the area. The best IJN Zero pilots would face the best USMC and USN Wildcat pilots and fierce dogfights would be the order of the day over the jungle island's Henderson Airfield. Several carrier battles would play out around the Solomons both sides knowing that to lose here would dash any hopes of further offensive action in the PTO.

In this series both sides control carrier forces and land-based air units trying to inflict as much damage on each other as possible. The IJN will attack Henderson and the invasion fleet while the USMC and USN will defend Guadalcanal and try and search out the various enemy carriers deployed against them. Each side will have limited resources and score points for attrition and forcing the other side to call in reinforcements. But the biggest score will be found in sinking carriers and other naval ships which will not be easy requiring several hits by bombs or torpedos.
