Post subject:  S3 #127 - TCO Frame 3 - Retreat from Kerch

Frame start 2030hrs EST, Sunday 23 January 2022
Log in early!

GENSIT: With the Soviet advances at Perekop and across the Sivash, the German army's defence of Kerch is untenable. Worse, the path to the Gneisnenau defensive positions around Simferopol has been cut off. The only escape for the Kerch garrison is by sea from the port of Feodosiya to rejoin the Axis defence at Yalta. The Luftwaffe has abandoned the airfields near Kerch. German forces have hastily mined the airfields and destroyed fuel and ammunition stocks as they withdrew to the west (F8, F207 and F259 will be closed at frame start). Ju87 units were flown to airfields west of Simferopol, leaving only the fighters to cover the retreat.

Axis(LW) – Gold
Allied (VVS) - Red

Side assignments (see series info post). 13 VRAF should remain on the Soviet side, although the RCAF (only 2 tonight) may join the axis for side balancing.
Comms - Axis should share the 4th FG channel on the iEN TeamSpeak server. Soviets should share the 352nd's channel.

Terrain – Crimea. Fields not tactically relevant to a frame will be set neutral or hidden. Airfield 181 will be set purple for initial arena log in.
Weather – clear.
Time - 0630hrs local time
Radar – 5 miles, min altitude 10 feet.
Max Flak Alt – 30,000ft

Objectives:
LW – Protect the Wehrmacht columns and Romanian naval units from VVS air attack
VVS – Destroy the Kerch garrison before they can escape to Yalta.
Download inflight map here.

Ground Forces:
Multiple Wehrmacht motorized transport columns, supported by integral light AAA units, are streaming westward from F8 and F207 along the "road" system (yellow lines on map). Once they reach Feodosiya they will board transport craft (AI ships) and sail westward to Yalta. Soviet engineering units are moving forward slowly from Kerch and are expected to restore F8 and F207 to operational status for the VVS sometime during the frame.

Plane Set. Strike aircraft (Il-2) will have 1 AI wingman and the bomber login will be available.
VVS – Il-2, P-39Q, La-5F, Yak-9D
LW – Bf109G-6, Bf-109G6/RVI, Fw-190F-8

Aircraft availability:
F261 - P-39Q, Il-2, La-5F, Yak-9D
F8, F207 - P-39Q, La-5F, Yak-9D (NB - these fields not available at frame start)
F213. F194, F258 - Bf 109G-6, Bf-109G6/RVI (these are considered different aircraft type for this frame), FW-190F8

Pilot Lives. Each pilot has three lives. Two of these lives may be flown in strike aircraft (Il-2), otherwise only one life in each aircraft type. Pilots may fly a maximum of three aircraft types. KIA, bail or ditch in an aircraft type results in loss of access to that type. Pilots may re-fly the same aircraft type if they have not lost a life in that aircraft (e.g. sortie in a La-5F, fly Yak-9D – crash, re-up La-5F).

Teleporting between fields is not permitted except after a pilot loss of life.

The arena may be open for practice on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately I am still using it to try to de-bug some of the AI routines.

Open for questions, comments. As always, the Janitors reserve the right to adjust/interpret rules as needed.

Muzz, please check your date for the next frame, think we are already past it.

BTW, and I'm sure Muzz would concur. A lot of players are missing out on not showing up to fly on Sunday night.
It's not the usual game play, planning and strategy are paramount to win the objectives. Come a little early, log on,
and see how you can fit in. The S3's will challenge you more than normal game play. Get on teamspeak and work
together for a challenge you won't find in everyday play.
