Apologies for late posting. I've just been a bit lax lately.
Frame 5 was the equivalent of the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot for the LW. Allied bomber formations were spread out and escorts were unable to properly protect them. Fifty-six allied heavies and 10 Mossies were brought down (including 42 AI). FW190A8s had a field day. 28 victories (not counting AI) for 8 losses.
Allies did manage to close two airfields over the course of the frame, but at horrific loss in aircrew KIA and captured.
VIII Bomber Command was withdrawn from combat operations for six months to rebuild their losses.
