<S>
Here I will post the plane setups of The Winter War (TWW). This series covers the air war between the Finnish and Russian airforces during WW2 from 1939-1944. The Winter War will be fought in frame 1-2, and the Continuation War in frame 3-5. The airframes will vary quite a bit between each frame, so make sure to check in before each new frame to know what your side's rides and rules are. There will also be a fighter comparison posted and updated before each new frame in another thread.

Date for this Warbirds event: Sunday, 17 Jan

Note that if you land at an airfield that is non-operational for that frame, there will only be a transport plane available and you need to fly the transport back to an operational airfield to get back in a fighter or bomber. For each frame it will be stated which fields are operational and which only have transports. Landing at a friendly village/town makes you lose the airframe but not the life.

* The Russian side has the C-47 as transport plane. Players are not allowed to troop fields.
* The Finnish side has the Bristol F.2B as transport plane. Must use "Fighter" loadout, no bombing is allowed.

---== FRAME 1 ==--- (30 Nov 1939)
Red fields
Operational: 2, 3, 23, 24, 25,
Transport only: 9, 10, 17, 18, 19, 22,

--= RUSSIAN AIRFORCE =--
3x I-16 Ishak

--= FINNISH AIRFORCE =--
Rule: All Finnish pilots MUST use a Finnish skin for the planes having one available. Squadmates need to check each other after take off. If someone uses another skin they need to land and re-up with a Finnish skin asap before being allowed to join any fight.

3x Fokker D.XXI

3x Bristol Blenheim (if needed for the scenario)

I don't understand the change that includes the Hurricane. Looking at a couple a/c lists for the beginning of the war there is nothing near a hurricane, unless the lists are wrong that I found.
Reasoning?

<S> Split

The Hurricane Mk.I was used by the Finnish Airforce at the end of the Winter War (frame 2) from the sources read. They were not as numerous as the Fokkers or Brewster though, hence the 6 pilot max limitation. Here are a few screenshots about it:

Sorry Robert, I failed to notice that you added Frame 2 airframes and took it as Frame 1.
Stupidity, I know... just wanting things to be right!

If I read the Frame dates correctly Frames 1 & 2 are the "Winter War"(30 Nov 1939-13 Mar 1940) and Frames 3, 4 & 5 are the "Continuation War"(25 June 1941-19 Sept 1944).
If this is correct, the Brewster B 239E did not serve in combat in the "Winter War" but had no combat until the "Continuation War".

Post subject:  Re: The Winter War - planesets

Yes sir.
The B-239 Brewster arrived right at the end of the Winter War, and was just late to see combat. Allowing the Brewster in the roster is however a trade-off since we don't have any Gloster Gladiator II's or Morane-Saulnier M.S.406's etc, which the Finnish Airforce used in good numbers. As such the Brewster has to somewhat be a stand in for those to simulate the diverse array of fighters the Finns fought with. Also the Russians used a lot of the outdated Polikarpov I-15 Chaika biplanes, and also had earlier types of the I-16 Ishak. Unfortunately we only have the improved I-16 Ishak Type 24 in the game, which has a 300-400 hp stronger engine. As such the Russians generally fly with a more potent fighter during the first two frames than the Finnish historically faced.

Hope it makes sense as why to allow the B-239 in the roster for frame 2.
