Frame 2: The Battle of Burma Road

With the Burma Road supply route at stake, the Japanese air forces again clashed with the AVG and British in a toe to toe slug fest.

The Japanese attacked the airfields at 124 LULLING and 125 MENGCY knocking out their forward observation radar early and finishing the airfields off by closing them later in the frame. The tactic blinded the allies to the Japanese bomber attacks. However much effort was expended closing these airfields at the expense of the Japanese objectives along the Burma Rd.

Although Japanese heavy bombers, grouped in tight formations inflicted heavy damage on the airfield and town of LASHIO (86, 87) they were not closed. Nor were any other installations along the Burma Rd attacked or closed. No supply trucks along the route were targeted or destroyed.

The allies suffered heavy loses, losing many P-40b’s to the nimble Ki-43 Oscars however they did manage to knock down several G4M1 Betty’s (ai). A few Oscars were sent down in flames by the persistent AVG. Most notably several skilled British pilots managed to knock down some of the faster, more maneuverable Oscars with their outdated Buffalos.

With Frame 2 in the history books, the allies continue to lead the series 6-0.
